Yep, It's true.....SNOW in AUSTIN, TX! The news has been building it up all week - crazy snowstorm coming on Friday (the sky is falling, the sky is falling!) - BEWARE! I kid you not - businesses were "preparing" for the "possibility" of snowfall and decided to close today....schools let out at 11:45 am so kidlets could get home in time for the impending snowman making and snowball fights..... Well, it's mid-afternoon and I keep stealing glances out my windows waiting for one of these magical white snowflakes. Drats. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. It's even getting SUNNY! Ugh. There have been a flurry of Facebook reports from some Sin City friends here in Austin and yes, there have been a few snowflakes around the area but apparently just not this far South.......... Saying all this, we DO know how we will be staying TOASTY warm this evening....ANTONE'S! YAY! An Intimate Evening with Raul Malo and special guest Ruby James....what a way to kick off the weekend! I'm giddy today so bear with me!
Maybe I've had too much coffee this morning or maybe I'm still reeling from the great night of music over at The Saxon Pub last night... I left my house to go see Will and Charlie Sexton play with their Mystic Knights of The Sea project... fantastic and was lured into staying when I saw that Uncle Lucius was playing right after... I've been diggin' their record for a while now but had never seen them live! Dig it...rock, soul, horns ... made me happy! Then a band that I'd only heard of thru Ruby James but didn't know much about came on... they're called DEADMAN and my friend Julie and I were smitten by the time they were half way thru their first song. Reminded me of The Band ... frontman Steven Collins has wonderful phrasing and a great presence... sweet harmonies, 6 piece band with a B3 and I love the feel and drive that Kyle (drummer) brings ... I'm so used to going out and seeing bands that I already know, it feels rare and beautiful to me to go out and stumble upon something brand new that totally inspires ... I can't wait to see them again!

The self-proclaimed "tree huggin', peace lovin', pot smokin', porn watchin', lazy ass hippie," refuses to get off the road and he too is coming to play at THE EL REY! He's one of our favorite story tellers and I've just about peed my pants at his shows... He's been pretty busy this year with a new album on Yep Roc and a mad touring schedule (he played Austin City Limits and the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in the same weekend), he premiered the "Volcano Radio Hour " a 60 min. radio show with songs, stories and phone calls AND he's been working on a forthcoming book called "Almost Everything I Say Is True" ... (and I thought WE were busy!)

Close to 10 years ago, we started a fun lil night called SWEETHEARTS of THE RODEO that ultimately launched this "social club" of ours and where the Sin City All Stars were born!
We brought outlaw country to the tiny front room at Molly's and thru the years had many drunken crazy nights filled with friends from all over ...We used to say it was like NASCAR people would come out to see the wrecks just as much as they would come for the music! The All Stars aren't exactly "famous" but they've sure got some famous friends and we've had the likes of Lucinda Williams, Dwight Yoakam, Jim Lauderdale, Gary Louris, members of Lone Justice, Jessi Colter, Shooter Jennings and a whole slew of amazing artists get up on stage with Bryson... I'm surprised no one got seriously hurt in those 6 amazing years!
Well somehow the stars have aligned as MAMA SHI and SHURMAN will be in town and we're dusting off the boots of THE SIN CITY ALL STARS and gathering some special guests to come raise a little hell during the holidays!
