Exile on S. Lamar ... May 20th, 2010 6:30pm

General News

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've heard about the fantastic super deluxe remastered expanded version of EXILE ON MAIN STREET that hits stores this week!   Well, we couldn't think of a better excuse to gather our friends together and pay homage to one of our favorite records of all time.  After all, what would GRAM DO?!   So, this Thursday, we're gonna our ROCKS OFF and put a little something in the LOVING CUP for our fellow musicians in Nashville who have lost gear, personal belongings and work as a result of the devastating flood that paralyzed Music City at the beginning of the month.

Come SHAKE YOUR HIPS with members of The Mother Truckers, Jesse Dayton, Michael Des Barres, Stonehoney, Deadman, Randy Weeks, Knuckle Yummy, Nakia, David Beck, Danny B Harvey, Ruby James and JImmy Thrill  - all performing songs from one of the most influential albums of all time - here in Austin, TX at Maria's Taco Xpress!

2529 S. Lamar
Austin, TX  78704

In addition to taking donations at the door and passing the "loving cup" around the room, we've got some amazing items for a silent auction. Those items include: Exile on vinyl, limited edition 7" single "Plundered My Soul", and an extremely rare (one of 6 in the world) "uncut proofs from the super deluxe Exile book featuring a gorgeous photo of Keith and Gram Parsons" suitable for framing" along with other items generously donated from members of the Austin community.

All proceeds from the door and auction items will go directly to the NARAS Nashville Flood Relief Fund

If you'd like additional info. on the event or would like to donate an item, service or volunteer your time, please contact Shilah Morrow.

No difference between a juke joint and a honky-tonk...Peter Wolf chats about "Midnight Souvenirs" on NPR

General News"Growing up in the era that I did, when the first generation of rock 'n' rollers were coming out ... there was a fusion of rhythm and blues and rock 'n' roll that was very profound," he says. "And I think that the R&B and blues artists always listened to the Grand Ole Opry. And the Grand Ole Opry artists always listened to Sonny Boy Williamson on the King Biscuit [Flower] Hour. And I think it was real, blue-collar music — and I don't really see the difference between a juke joint and a honky-tonk." - Peter Wolf from a recent interview on NPR ... click here to read the entire interview http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=125538517

I gotta tell ya, Peter Wolf's duet with Shelby Lynne "Tragedy" sets the tone as track 1 on Sin City Social Club Vol. 13's sampler and it's been stuck in my head for 3 weeks now!  There's a Stonesy quality to the song and I LOVE the pairing of Peter and Shelby and sure hope that we have the opportunity to see them perform together sometime soon!

Of course you've heard that he's brought in sweet yet haunting voice of Neko Case on "Green Grass of Summer" and Merle Haggard on "It's Too Late For Me" but those are the only other stand outs - I'm kinda partial to the dirty blues arrangement on "Thick As Thieves" and the sweet soul groove on "Overnight Lows" (which I'm swayin' to while writing this!)

Rolling Stone gave the record 4 Stars this week... click "read more" to check out their review  We've also posted "footage from the making of the album" over on our "Hey Yall, Watch This" video page...click on the TV screen to your right!   Whatchoo waitin' for...go get you some!

We Wanna HELP WILL SEXTON Benefit!

General News

In December of 2009, Will Sexton suffered a minor stroke.
Will is doing really well, but his bills and doctor visits, will be ongoing.

He has lost some of his cognitive functions,
part of which is his ability to remember any of the songs
he has written and sung for most of his life.

This affects his ability to do the thing he loves most,
which is also his primary source of income.

Will is a beloved member of the Austin music community, and
his contribution to the scene as writer, player, accompanist,
teacher & friend cannot be overstated.
He is one of the most respected musicians in town.

A group of us are putting together this benefit.
The exact times and players will be FULLY listed as soon as we have the entire lineup together.
